Ideal impulse island cooler. Excellent product visibility
An island impulse cooler creates a refrigerated display that invites customers to serve themselves while keeping food at safe holding temperatures. Cold air is drawn from the base, chilled by an evaporator coil, and then pushed up through a perforated deck. The curtain of air spills over the front edge, forming a thermal barrier that keeps the interior cool without a door. On the service side, sliding doors with a self-closing mechanism allow staff to restock quickly without breaking the air seal for long periods.
The operator loads the unit from the rear. Three GN1/1-150 mm gastronorm containers sit on adjustable-height runners, or the same space can be fitted with four levels of hanging inserts for smaller trays. Glass shelves tilt and lock at different angles to present products at the best viewing height. LED lighting runs along the top frame, casting an even glow across the display without adding heat. A digital control panel on the service side sets the target temperature between +2 °C and +10 °C, and the display confirms the current reading.
The chamber is built with stainless steel surfaces for hygiene and durability. Tempered safety glass forms the front and sides, while the base contains a bathtub that collects condensation. Water drains either into a condensate container or directly to a G ¾” waste connection. The black frame houses the compressor and fan assembly, with eight ventilation options to suit different kitchen layouts and control systems. An ecological refrigerant circulates through the system, cooling the air before it is forced back into the display area.
The cooler measures 1200 mm wide, 700 mm deep and 1440 mm high, with an internal chamber of 985 mm by 509 mm. It draws 0.95 kW from a 220-240 V, 50 Hz supply, a load that fits a standard single-phase circuit in a commercial kitchen. The temperature range of +2 °C to +10 °C keeps prepared foods safe for service without freezing them, making the unit suitable for salads, desserts, beverages and pre-plated items.
Cleaning follows the parts the unit contains. The stainless steel tub and runners wipe down with sanitiser. Glass shelves lift out for thorough washing. The condensate tray or waste pipe requires periodic flushing to prevent scale build-up. LED lighting needs no maintenance beyond occasional dusting, and the self-closing doors reduce the need for manual adjustment.
A closed-door variant is available under article BHS-DC2222-120EV, using the same chamber dimensions and cooling system but with full-height glass doors on the customer side.
