Drainage Channels are professional stainless steel floor drainage channels designed for collecting and draining washing water, process fluids and production wastewater in professional kitchens, food processing plants, dishwashing areas, bars, slaughterhouses, breweries and other establishments with intensive floor washing. Stainless steel drainage channels are installed directly in the floor concrete with gratings (grates) on top, ensuring effective fluid collection over several square metres. Drainage channels meet HACCP hygiene requirements — their smooth stainless steel surfaces prevent bacterial accumulation and are easy to clean. BHS offers drainage channels together with a wide range of stainless steel furniture.

Drainage channels are an essential part of professional kitchen and food production facility infrastructure where intensive floor washing and water drainage are daily realities. Properly installed stainless steel drainage channels prevent water accumulation on the floor, reduce the risk of slipping, prevent bacterial growth in damp areas and ensure compliance with HACCP and food hygiene requirements. A drainage channel is a long-term investment in facility hygiene and staff safety.
Drainage channels are available in various types to suit the needs of the space and the drainage system. Linear channels — elongated channel elements installed in the floor parallel to a wall or equipment row; ideal for large spaces with linear water drainage. Point drains — individual square or round floor drains; used in smaller spaces or at individual workstations. Central drainage system — multiple linear channels converge in a central collection inspection chamber. Stainless steel gratings (grates) — the top cover of the channel; mesh or closed design; removable for cleaning. Also explore work tables with sinks and basins.
The technical parameters of drainage channels determine their suitability for specific applications. Channel width — typically 100 mm, 150 mm, 200 mm, 300 mm or larger; depends on water flow intensity. Channel depth — 70 mm to 200 mm; deeper channels provide greater hydraulic capacity. Material — stainless steel to AISI 304 standard; AISI 316 for more aggressive environments (seafood processing, chemicals). Grating type — H class (3.5 t) for linear channels or D class (5 t) for transport zones. Connection diameter — 75 mm, 100 mm or 150 mm connection to the drainage system. Surface finish — matte or polished; both are easy to clean. Also explore work tables.
The choice of stainless steel grade for a drainage channel depends on the conditions of the space. AISI 304 (1.4301) — for general use in professional kitchens; resistant to standard cleaning chemicals; the most common option. AISI 316 (1.4401) — enhanced corrosion resistance; recommended for seafood processing areas, breweries and locations with high salt concentration. Plastic drainage channels — polypropylene or HDPE; lower cost; suitable for areas without heavy loads. Composite materials — some models feature a plastic base with a stainless steel surface. Also explore stainless steel shelves for storage.
Installing a drainage channel requires prior planning during the construction or renovation phase. Floor slope — the floor must be sloped towards the drainage channel (min. 1–2%); ensures gravity drainage. Concrete recess — the channel is embedded in concrete at the appropriate depth; the top edge of the channel is level with the floor surface. Drainage connection — the lower outlet of the channel connects to the building’s drainage system. Hygiene requirements — a hermetic siphon seal prevents odours from entering from the drainage system; mandatory in food processing areas. BHS advises on designing a drainage system for the kitchen.
Professional restaurant or canteen kitchen — linear drainage channels near washing equipment, along work table rows and near preparation equipment; reduce the risk of slipping and facilitate floor cleaning. Dishwashing area — drainage channel near the dishwashing machine; large water volume; AISI 304 or 316. Bar or brewery — drainage channels near rinsing zones and room-temperature beverage dispensing areas.
Can a drainage channel be installed in an existing floor without full renovation? Partial renovation is necessary — a recess must be created in the floor; it is advisable to plan during the new kitchen design phase. Explore stainless steel furniture.
How to clean a drainage channel? Gratings should be removed and cleaned regularly; the inside of the channel should be scrubbed with a brush and alkaline or disinfectant solution; the siphon should be checked. Also explore extraction hoods.
