With its distinctive design, the Schaerer Barista looks just like a traditional espresso machine. But it's fully automated so you don't need specialised barista training to produce the perfect drink. The operation only requires the portafilter to be inserted or removed and emptied. It automatically grinds and tampers for the perfect espresso every time.
But the theatre of a traditional machine is still alive. The Schaerer Barista comes with 2 steam wands, the manual Powersteam and the automatic Supersteam, so the wand routine and the hissing sounds are still part of the working process
An automatic espresso machine that grinds, tamps and brews at the touch of a button, delivering café-quality coffee without specialist barista skills. The Schaerer Barista handles every stage from bean to cup, letting the operator focus on the customer while the machine ensures consistency and precision.
The machine uses two independent grinders, one for each brewing unit, to freshly grind beans for every shot. The ground coffee is automatically dosed into the portafilter, then tamped with controlled pressure to create an even, compact puck. Hot water is forced through the puck under pressure, extracting the coffee's flavour and crema. The degree of grinding can be adjusted to finer or coarser settings, allowing the brewing time to be fine-tuned for different beans or recipes. This process eliminates variability, so each espresso meets the same standard every time.
Operation is designed to be simple and intuitive. The operator inserts the portafilter, starts the brewing cycle, and removes the used grounds. The machine's automation handles the grinding, dosing, tamping and extraction, while the operator retains the visible, hands-on steps that create the café atmosphere. Milk foaming, a key part of cappuccino and latte preparation, can be done manually with the classic steam wand or fully automatically with the Supersteam system, which allows temperature and foam consistency to be pre-programmed. This flexibility means the machine can adapt to different workflows, from quick service to a more interactive, theatrical experience.
The Schaerer Barista is built with two integrated grinders, each dedicated to one of the two brewing groups. This setup allows two different coffee blends to be used simultaneously, or the same blend to be prepared in parallel. Up to 18 different recipes can be stored, covering everything from a single espresso to a lungo or ristretto. For cafés that offer additional blends, the machine includes a function for using pre-ground coffee, bypassing the grinders when needed. The steam wands—one manual and one automatic—provide options for both traditional milk texturing and hands-free operation, ensuring the foam is smooth and creamy for every drink.
The machine's construction is compact, with a footprint designed to fit on a standard worktop. The exterior is finished in stainless steel, chosen for its durability and ease of cleaning in a busy café environment. The controls are straightforward, with buttons for selecting recipes, adjusting grind settings, and activating the steam wands. The voltage range of 208-240 V allows the machine to be connected to a standard commercial power supply, while the weight of 75 kg indicates it is a stationary unit, intended to remain in place once installed.
Cleaning and maintenance follow from the machine's design. The portafilters and steam wands require regular wiping and purging to prevent coffee or milk residue from building up. The grinders should be cleaned periodically to remove coffee oils and grounds, ensuring the grind quality remains consistent. The drip tray and waste bin are removable for easy emptying, and the exterior surfaces can be wiped down with a damp cloth to maintain hygiene and appearance.
The Schaerer Barista is categorised as a professional automatic espresso machine, suitable for cafés, restaurants and catering environments where speed, consistency and quality are essential. Its dual brewing groups and programmable recipes make it versatile enough to handle a high volume of orders while maintaining the precision of a traditional espresso.
