Freezer-Chest Showcase

A freezer-chest showcase is an effective retail tool that not only stores frozen products but also promotes their sale — visual product display with lighting increases impulse purchases by 20–40% compared to open storage chests. BHS helps select the most suitable model and supplies these units to retail and HoReCa businesses.

Freezer-chest showcase construction and features

The unit is a horizontal freezer with a sliding glass or plexiglass lid on top — customers or staff access products from above. The glass lid is illuminated from the inside with LED lighting, which significantly improves product visibility and appeal. The compressor maintains a temperature of −18°C or lower even during intensive use over several hours. The digital temperature display on the outside allows monitoring the value without opening the unit. Transparent glass on the right side or front lets customers view the product range from the side without opening the lid. Internal organisation with removable baskets allows grouping product categories. The external casing is available in various colours.

When and where a freezer-chest showcase is needed

A freezer-chest showcase is the optimal solution for points of sale where frozen product display and sales occur simultaneously. In a mini-market or convenience store, the unit ensures the sale of frozen products (ice cream, frozen snacks, semi-finished products) in a compact space. At a fuel station’s convenience zone, a chest showcase by the checkout encourages impulse purchases. In a café, a freezer-chest showcase by the checkout or bar counter displays the frozen dessert offering. In a bakery or delicatessen, the unit showcases frozen confectionery. For event and festival sales, a mobile freezer-chest showcase with wheels serves as a portable frozen product point. BHS advises on the appropriate model selection.

Retail optimisation with LED lighting

LED lighting in a freezer-chest showcase serves two purposes — it provides sufficient light for product identification and creates a visually appealing display that attracts attention. Studies show that illuminated product displays increase visibility and sales. Cool white LED (5000–6500 K) is suitable for frozen products — it imitates a cold sensation and emphasises product freshness. Lighting intensity can be adjusted in some models. LEDs do not emit heat onto products, unlike older halogen or fluorescent lighting options. Regular LED lighting inspection and replacement are part of unit maintenance.

HoReCa and retail scenarios

In a café with a frozen cake and ice cream offering, a freezer-chest showcase by the checkout displays products to waiting customers — impulse sales of frozen desserts increase. In a mini-market with limited space, an 80–120 L unit holds the entire frozen product range in a compact form. At an event kiosk, a mobile freezer-chest showcase with wheels allows moving the point of sale between different event locations. See also Retail Freezer Display Case for a broader range.

Frequently asked questions

What is the unit maintenance routine? The glass and internal baskets should be cleaned weekly or as needed with a disinfectant. The defrost cycle occurs automatically — afterwards, the temperature returns to normal levels. HACCP requirements specify documenting the temperature once a day. BHS advises on a maintenance schedule.

Does the unit require a special electrical connection? Most models operate from a standard 230V/50Hz socket. Larger capacity units may require a reinforced electrical connection.
