Granular Ice
A granular ice maker produces small, soft flakes of ice by freezing a thin layer of water on a refrigerated drum. The drum rotates, and a scraper peels the frozen layer away as flakes, which fall into a storage container. This method creates ice quickly and continuously, without the need for moulds or batch cycles. Flake ice cools faster than cubed ice because its irregular shape exposes more surface area to the air or liquid, transferring cold more efficiently.
The GR655 starts by drawing water from the supply and chilling it inside the refrigerated drum. As the drum turns, the water freezes into a thin sheet, which the internal scraper shaves off into flakes. These flakes drop into the modular container below, where they accumulate until needed. The operator sets the machine to run continuously, or switches it off when the container is full. The flakes remain loose and dry, ready to be scooped or dispensed directly onto food, drinks or laboratory samples.
Built from food-safe stainless steel, the GR655 has a refrigeration system insulated with high-density foam to reduce energy loss. The modular container allows the operator to remove and replace it without stopping production, so ice can be moved to another location while the machine continues to run. The front panel houses the power switch, a control for ice thickness, and indicator lights for power, water supply and full container.
A capacity of 634 kg per 24 hours means the machine can supply a busy kitchen, supermarket display or laboratory throughout a full shift without interruption. The 1.85 kW power rating requires a dedicated 230 V circuit, which most professional kitchens and commercial spaces already provide. The 105 kg weight keeps the unit stable on a worktop or floor, while the 675 mm width, 550 mm depth and 800 mm height allow it to fit beneath standard worktops or alongside other equipment in a tight kitchen layout.
Cleaning involves emptying the container, wiping the interior with a food-safe sanitiser, and rinsing the water inlet to prevent scale build-up. The stainless steel surfaces resist corrosion, but areas with hard water will need a filter or decalcification system to protect the refrigeration components. The modular container can be removed and washed separately, then slotted back into place once dry.
The GR655 is a standalone granular ice maker designed for continuous production of flake ice in food service, retail, healthcare and laboratory settings.
