Condensation system - water
Granular ice
Granular ice forms continuously as water freezes on the surface of a refrigerated drum. The drum rotates slowly, and a fixed blade shaves the ice into small, irregular flakes. These flakes pack tightly around food, cooling it faster and more evenly than cubed ice, while melting more slowly to maintain freshness without waterlogging delicate items like seafood or salad leaves.
The GR455 ice maker follows this principle. Water is pumped onto the chilled drum, freezes instantly, and is scraped off as granular flakes. The flakes fall into a modular container beneath the drum, ready for immediate use or storage. The operator connects the water supply, switches the unit on, and the machine runs unattended, producing ice until the container is full or the water supply is turned off.
Construction is high-grade food-safe stainless steel with dense insulation to minimise energy loss. The modular container allows the ice to be moved without handling the machine itself, reducing the risk of contamination and making it easier to integrate the unit into different workflows.
Controls are simple: a single power switch starts and stops the ice-making cycle. The 230 V supply matches standard UK commercial circuits, so no special wiring is needed. The 1.35 kW power rating indicates a moderate load that can share a circuit with other kitchen equipment without overloading it.
A daily output of 395 kg means the machine can keep pace with busy food displays, seafood counters or cocktail bars without running out during peak service. The 82 kg weight allows the unit to be positioned on a sturdy worktop or moved with a trolley when necessary. Footprint of 675 mm by 550 mm fits into most back-of-house areas, leaving space for other appliances and storage.
Cleaning involves flushing the water system periodically to prevent scale build-up, especially in hard-water areas. The stainless steel surfaces are wiped down with food-safe sanitiser. The modular container is removed and cleaned separately, ensuring hygiene standards are maintained.
The GR455 is a standalone ice maker designed for granular ice only. It fits into the ICE TECH professional refrigeration range, complementing blast chillers and display cabinets where precise temperature control is essential.
