Only panels - without cooling unit
Walk-in cold rooms built from interlocking panels create a sealed, insulated chamber that keeps perishable stock at a steady low temperature. The panels form walls, ceiling and floor, trapping cold air inside while blocking heat from the kitchen. An 80 mm layer of insulation slows the transfer of warmth, so the cooling unit works less often and uses less energy. The same insulation keeps the room cool during brief power interruptions, protecting stock until power returns.
The panels arrive as flat sheets that slot together without tools. Each edge has a tongue-and-groove profile that locks into the next panel, forming a continuous barrier. Once the last panel is in place, the room is sealed and ready for the cooling unit to be fitted. The floor panel is surfaced with stainless steel that resists corrosion and provides a secure footing, even when wet. Inside, the chamber measures 1340 mm wide, 1640 mm deep and 2040 mm high, giving enough headroom for an operator to move trolleys or stacked crates.
Assembly starts with the floor panel laid on a level base. Wall panels are stood upright and interlocked along their vertical edges, then the ceiling panels are lowered into place. The final wall panel closes the gap and completes the enclosure. No adhesive or sealant is needed; the interlocking edges press tightly together to prevent air leaks. The finished room can be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere if the kitchen layout changes.
The panels are 80 mm thick, with insulation sandwiched between two metal skins. The floor panel supports up to 1500 kg per square metre, allowing heavy pallets or bulk ingredients to be stored without risk of collapse. The total weight of the panel set is 219 kg, so it can be moved by two people or a small pallet truck. The external dimensions of 1500 mm, 1800 mm or 2200 mm height allow the room to fit under standard kitchen ceilings while still providing 2040 mm of internal headroom.
Inside the chamber, the stainless steel floor is easy to clean with a hose or mop. The smooth metal surface sheds spills and resists stains, so hygiene standards are maintained. The interlocking edges of the panels require no additional sealing, but should be checked periodically for gaps that could let warm air in. If a panel is damaged, it can be replaced individually without dismantling the whole room.
Panels are available in heights of 1500 mm, 1800 mm and 2200 mm, allowing the room to be sized to fit the available space. The same interlocking system is used for all heights, so panels can be mixed if needed. The cooling unit is purchased separately, so the room can be configured as a chiller or freezer depending on the unit chosen.
These panels are listed in the TEFCOLD catalogue under walk-in cold rooms and modular refrigeration.
