Cold room panels with 80 mm insulation - without floor
Without cooling unit
Cold room panels create a sealed, insulated enclosure that keeps perishable goods at a stable low temperature without relying on a built-in cooling unit. The panels interlock to form walls, ceiling and floor, trapping a layer of still air within their 80 mm insulation core. This still air acts as a barrier, slowing the transfer of heat from the warmer kitchen into the chilled space inside. The result is a walk-in chamber that maintains its temperature with less energy and less strain on the external refrigeration plant that will be connected later.
Each panel arrives as a single unit, its edges shaped to slot together without gaps. The operator positions the floor panel first, then builds up the walls and ceiling, locking each new panel into place with the one beside it. The anti-slip stainless-steel floor panel is laid down first, providing a hygienic, durable surface that resists corrosion and supports trolleys or shelving. Once the last ceiling panel is in, the chamber is sealed and ready for the external cooling unit to be installed and commissioned. No specialist tools are needed beyond a spirit level and a rubber mallet to tap the joints home.
Inside the finished chamber the usable space measures 1040 mm by 1040 mm by 2040 mm, giving a clear volume of 2.2 m³. The interlocking design allows the operator to reach every shelf without obstruction, and the smooth internal surfaces make cleaning straightforward. The 180 kg weight of each panel means two people are needed to lift and position it safely, and the 1200 mm width keeps the panels manageable for assembly in tight kitchen spaces.
The 80 mm insulation thickness is chosen to balance thermal performance with the space the panel occupies. Thicker insulation would reduce heat gain further but would also shrink the usable volume inside; 80 mm gives a practical compromise that suits most professional storage needs. The panels can be cut on site to fit around service ducts or irregular floor plans, and additional panels can be ordered later to expand the chamber if the kitchen layout changes.
Cleaning is limited to the internal surfaces: wipe down the stainless-steel floor and the smooth panel faces with a food-safe sanitiser, avoiding abrasives that could scratch the finish. The interlocking joints should be checked periodically for tightness, and any damaged sealant replaced to maintain the airtight seal.
These panels are supplied without a cooling unit, so the operator must specify and install a separate refrigeration plant sized to match the 2.2 m³ volume and the expected heat load. The same panels are also available in other heights and widths to create custom cold rooms for different kitchen footprints.
