An abrasive paper disk removes material from metal surfaces by friction. The grain embedded in the paper scratches away a thin layer with each pass, smoothing welds, deburring edges and restoring a uniform finish to worktops, sinks and fabrication panels. The method is mechanical, not thermal, so it does not warp or discolour the metal beneath.
The operator mounts the disk on the grinder's backing pad, secures it with the central nut, and starts the motor. As the disk spins, the operator guides it lightly across the surface, letting the grain do the work. Too much pressure clogs the paper and slows progress; too little leaves uneven patches. The sequence ends when the surface is smooth to the touch and free of visible scratches or burrs.
The FIMAR PTB disk is a flat, circular sheet of abrasive paper. The grain size and bonding agent are chosen for consistent cutting on stainless steel and aluminium, the metals most common in professional kitchens. The central hole fits the standard arbor of FIMAR grinders and compatible makes listed in the PPN-PPF 25 range.
Cleaning is limited to removing metal dust from the grinder guard and work area after each use. The disk itself is disposable; once the grain is worn or clogged, it is replaced rather than cleaned.
The PTB article is part of the FIMAR PPN-PPF 25 series of abrasive accessories, which the catalogue places among consumables for metal fabrication and maintenance in catering workshops.
