Water softening device with an 8 l capacity that reduces water hardness and the formation of limescale deposits. Helps extend the service life of heating elements and household appliances. Regenerable with tablet salt.
A water softener removes dissolved minerals that cause limescale by exchanging calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions. Inside the unit, resin beads carry a sodium charge; as hard water passes through, the beads attract the calcium and magnesium, releasing sodium in their place. This exchange happens continuously until the resin is saturated. The process is purely chemical, requiring no power, and the softened water leaves the unit ready for use in boilers, combi ovens, coffee machines and other catering appliances.
To operate the softener, connect the inlet to the mains water supply and the outlet to the equipment that needs treated water. The unit fills automatically and begins softening as soon as water flows. When the resin is exhausted, regeneration is started manually by adding tablet salt (Stalgast 820999) to the brine chamber. The salt dissolves, creating a concentrated brine that flushes the resin, stripping off the accumulated calcium and magnesium and recharging the beads with sodium. After a rinse cycle the softener is ready for another service run.
The Stalgast 8-litre water softener is built as a single vertical cylinder with a transparent brine chamber on the front. The body is plastic, resistant to the temperatures and pressures encountered in a professional kitchen. The inlet and outlet ports are sized for standard catering plumbing, and the compact footprint (190 mm deep, 255 mm wide, 400 mm high) fits under most worktops or inside cupboards.
Controls are limited to a manual regeneration lever and a sight glass that shows the salt level. The sight glass allows the operator to check salt stock without opening the unit, while the lever initiates the regeneration cycle once salt has been added.
An 8-litre capacity refers to the volume of resin inside the unit. This volume determines how much water can be softened before regeneration is needed; the actual throughput depends on the incoming water hardness. The maximum water temperature of 45 °C ensures the resin is not damaged by hot water from taps or pre-heat circuits. Regeneration with tablet salt is standard practice in professional softeners, offering consistent salt dosing and easy handling.
Cleaning is limited to keeping the brine chamber free of debris and ensuring the salt stock is maintained. The transparent chamber allows visual inspection, and the unit can be wiped down with a damp cloth. No internal disassembly is required for routine upkeep.
The softener is supplied as a single model. A water meter (Stalgast 823998) is recommended to track water usage and schedule regeneration accurately.
The unit is listed in the Stalgast catalogue under water treatment equipment for professional kitchens.
