A transparent polypropylene lid that seals 5-compartment BHS food trays, shielding contents from dust, spills and temperature shifts while keeping each portion visible and separate.

The lid works as a rigid barrier that sits directly on the tray's raised edges, creating an airtight seal without clamps or clips. Polypropylene's low thermal conductivity slows heat loss or gain, so hot meals stay warm and chilled items remain cool until service. The material also resists cracking under repeated stacking, allowing trays to be piled without crushing the food beneath.

To use, the operator slides the lid over the filled tray, aligning the five moulded compartments with the tray's divisions. Two large compartments cover main courses, two smaller ones protect desserts or bread rolls, and a central rectangular slot holds cutlery. Once in place, the lid can be carried or stacked; its transparency lets staff check contents without lifting it. When the meal is ready to serve, the lid is removed in one motion and can be inverted to double as a shallow tray for soiled cutlery or empty containers.

Construction is a single piece of injection-moulded polypropylene, chosen for its balance of clarity, rigidity and temperature tolerance. The lid withstands freezer storage at -40 °C and oven reheating up to 95 °C without warping or clouding. Edges are smooth to prevent snagging, and the underside has a slight lip that locks onto the tray rim for stability during transport.

Overall dimensions are 370 mm long, 334 mm wide and 43 mm high, matching the footprint of standard 5-compartment BHS trays. The lid's low profile adds minimal height, so stacked units remain stable on worktops or in cupboards. Its weight is light enough for one-handed handling, yet sturdy enough to support additional trays stacked on top.

Cleaning follows from the material: polypropylene can be washed in commercial dishwashers or wiped down with sanitising cloths. The smooth surface sheds food residue, and the absence of seams or hinges eliminates dirt traps. After washing, the lid dries quickly and can be nested with others to save space in storage racks.
