for coffee group piston
A silicone Orm gasket maintains the seal between the portafilter and the group head of an espresso machine. When the portafilter is locked into place, the gasket compresses slightly, preventing water from leaking around the edges and ensuring the full pressure of the pump is directed through the coffee puck. Without a tight seal, the machine cannot build the necessary pressure for proper extraction, leading to weak or uneven coffee and potential splashing or dripping during brewing.
To replace the gasket, the operator first removes the old one, usually by prying it out with a flat tool. The new Orm gasket is then pressed into the groove of the group head until it sits evenly. Once fitted, the portafilter is reattached and tested with a blank shot to confirm the seal holds under pressure. The silicone material remains flexible over repeated heating and cooling cycles, resisting hardening and cracking that would compromise the seal.
This Orm gasket is constructed from food-grade silicone, chosen for its durability and resistance to the temperatures and pressures typical in espresso extraction. The material does not absorb coffee oils or flavours, so it does not affect the taste of subsequent brews.
The gasket fits a wide range of SAECO, Gaggia and Krups Palatino 905 espresso machines, including SAECO models such as Café Grande, Intelia, Royal Professional, Vienna and Xelsis, as well as Gaggia models like Accademia, Brera and Titanium. The compatibility list covers both domestic and light commercial machines, ensuring the same part serves multiple units in a professional catering setting.
Regular replacement of the Orm gasket is part of routine espresso machine maintenance. Over time, the silicone loses its elasticity, and the seal weakens, so the gasket should be inspected periodically and replaced when signs of wear appear. Cleaning involves wiping the gasket with a damp cloth after each use to remove coffee residue, but no solvents or abrasives should be used, as these can damage the silicone surface.
This part is categorised under espresso machine spares and accessories, specifically for group head maintenance.
