| NOTES | ring thickness 1.9 mm - internal ø 7.2 mm |
An O-ring creates a pressure-tight seal between moving or fixed parts in an espresso machine. It is compressed between two surfaces, blocking water, steam or coffee oils from leaking past the joint. The material must stay flexible across the temperature swings of brewing and steaming, resist swelling in contact with hot water and oils, and keep its shape over repeated cycles of compression and release.
The operator fits the O-ring into a groove on the portafilter, group head or steam wand. Once seated, it remains in place during normal operation and is removed only for replacement. No adjustment is needed; the seal is either present and intact or it is not.
This O-ring is made of EPDM, a synthetic rubber chosen for its resistance to heat, water and coffee oils. The cross-section measures 1.9 mm, giving the correct compression when the joint is tightened. The internal diameter of 7.2 mm matches the shaft or spigot it seals, ensuring a snug fit without stretching or bunching.
The 1.9 mm thickness determines how much the ring can be compressed before the surfaces meet. Too thin and the seal may leak; too thick and the joint may not close fully. The 7.2 mm internal diameter locates the ring precisely on the component it seals, preventing misalignment that could cause wear or leakage.
Cleaning is limited to wiping the ring with a damp cloth to remove coffee residue. No solvents or abrasives should be used, as they can degrade the EPDM and shorten its service life.
This spare part fits commercial espresso machines from Brasilia, Carimali, ECM Manufacture, Expobar, Faema, Fiamma RST, Fiorenzato C.S., Grimac, Sab Italia, Scala, Vibiemme and Wittenborg.
