A flat gasket forms the seal between the portafilter and the group head on an espresso machine. Over time, the rubber compound hardens and loses its elasticity, allowing water to bypass the coffee puck and weaken the shot. Replacing the gasket restores the original pressure and ensures the water flows through the grounds at the correct rate, producing a consistent crema and balanced extraction.
The operator removes the old gasket with a pick or flat tool, cleans the groove in the group head, and presses the new gasket into place until it sits evenly around the entire circumference. No adhesive is needed; the gasket is held by its own tension and the pressure of the portafilter when locked in.
This gasket is made from nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR), a synthetic elastomer chosen for its resistance to oils, heat and repeated compression cycles. The 13 mm outer diameter, 4 mm inner diameter and 4 mm thickness match the standard groove found on a wide range of professional espresso machines.
Compatibility covers models from BFC, Brasilia, Expobar, Faema, Fiozzenzato, Futura, Futurmat-Ariete, Grimac, La Marzocco, Pavoli, Rancilio, Royal, San Marco, Scala, Vibiemme and Wega. Check the portafilter and group head for the same groove dimensions before fitting.
