A standardised GN 1/9 container holds ingredients, prepared components or finished dishes in a compact footprint that fits commercial refrigerators, bain-maries and transport trolleys. The 65 mm depth creates a shallow profile that keeps layers of food visible and accessible without stacking multiple trays.
Containers of this type are organised in gastronorm racks and shelves. Their uniform dimensions allow chefs to swap containers between stations without re-plating, speeding service during peak hours. The material, ABS, is a rigid thermoplastic that resists impacts, chemicals and repeated washing at commercial temperatures, so the container maintains its shape and hygiene standards over daily use.
To use the container, food is loaded directly into the cavity. The straight sides and flat base make portioning and removal straightforward. When filled, the container slides into a compatible rack or shelf system, where it locks into place with the GN 1/9 spacing. After service, the container is removed, emptied and washed in a commercial dishwasher or by hand.
Construction is a single moulded piece of ABS, with no seams or joints that could trap food debris. The material is food-safe and does not absorb odours or stains, so it remains neutral for any ingredient.
The 176 mm length and 108 mm width match the GN 1/9 standard, allowing the container to fit alongside other gastronorm sizes without wasted space. The 65 mm height gives a 0.6 L volume, suitable for single portions, garnishes or small batches of ingredients. The compact size also reduces the weight of each filled container, making it easier to handle during service.
Cleaning is simple: the smooth ABS surface is wiped or scrubbed with standard kitchen detergents and rinsed. The container is dishwasher-safe, so it can be sanitised alongside other kitchenware. No special maintenance is required beyond regular washing and inspection for cracks or wear.
