A gastronorm container holds prepared ingredients, cooked dishes or chilled components in a standardised footprint that slides into refrigerators, bain-maries, hot cupboards and trolleys. The GN 1/2 size matches half the width of a full gastronorm tray, allowing two containers to sit side by side in the same shelf space. This modular system keeps food organised, reduces handling and speeds service in professional kitchens.
The container is formed from polycarbonate, a transparent thermoplastic that withstands repeated thermal shock without warping or cracking. It can move directly from freezer to hot-holding unit and back without risk of breakage, and the clear walls let staff identify contents without opening lids or removing labels.
To use, load the container with food up to the 200 mm fill line, then slide it into any compatible gastronorm rack or shelf. The 325 mm length and 265 mm width fit standard GN 1/2 cut-outs, while the 200 mm height provides 11.8 litres of usable volume. When service is complete, lift the container out, empty it and stack it with others of the same size for compact storage.
The polycarbonate construction is lightweight yet rigid, so a single container can be carried by one person even when full. It resists staining from sauces, oils and acidic ingredients, and the smooth surfaces release food cleanly during portioning or plating.
Cleaning follows from the material: wash the container in hot water with mild detergent, rinse and air-dry. Polycarbonate tolerates temperatures up to the boiling point of water, so it can be sanitised in a commercial dishwasher without damage. Avoid abrasive pads or powders that could scratch the transparent walls and reduce visibility.
The GN 1/2-200 mm size is one of several depths available in the ARAVEN polycarbonate range, allowing kitchens to choose the volume that best matches their batch sizes and storage heights.
