A filter holder gasket creates the seal between the portafilter and the group head of an espresso machine. Without it, pressurised water would leak past the basket instead of being forced through the coffee grounds. The gasket sits in a groove around the portafilter's rim, compressing slightly when the handle is locked into place. Over time, the rubber hardens and loses its elasticity, so the seal weakens and extraction becomes uneven. Replacing the gasket restores the original pressure and keeps the shot consistent.

To fit the gasket, the portafilter is removed from the machine and the old gasket is pried out of its groove. The new gasket is pressed into the same groove, ensuring it lies flat and even all the way round. Once the portafilter is reattached, the operator runs a short flush to check for leaks. If water still escapes, the gasket may be twisted or the wrong size.

This gasket is a flat ring with an outer diameter of 73 mm, an inner diameter of 57 mm and a thickness of 8 mm. The dimensions match the portafilter baskets used in a wide range of professional espresso machines. Its footprint is small enough to fit inside the standard group head, while the 8 mm thickness gives enough compression to form a reliable seal without over-tightening the portafilter handle.

The gasket is made for espresso machines from AZKOYEN, BEZZERA, BIANCHI, EXPOBAR, FAEMA, FIORENZATO C.S., FRACINO, FUTURA, FUTURMAT-ARIETE, GAGGIA SPAGNA, GRIMAC, ISOMAC, ITALCREM, MAIRALI, PAVONI, QUICK MILL, RENEKA, SAECO, SANREMO, SCALA, VFA EXPRES and VIBIEMME.

Cleaning is limited to wiping the gasket with a damp cloth after each service to remove coffee oils. No solvents or abrasives should be used, as they can degrade the rubber and shorten its life. When the gasket becomes brittle or cracked, it should be replaced to maintain the correct extraction pressure.
