Colander Stalgast 072502

A colander holds food while water drains through perforations in its base and sides. The bowl sits in a sink or over a container, letting gravity pull the liquid away so that only the solid food remains. This method separates food from cooking water, rinsing water or thawing liquid without lifting or tipping, and it scales to the volume the bowl can hold.

The operator places the colander in the sink, loads it with vegetables, pasta, fruit or other food, and runs water over the contents. Once the food is rinsed or drained, the colander is lifted out and the food tipped into a tray, pan or serving vessel. The bowl's volume and the size of its perforations set the maximum load and the speed of drainage.

This Stalgast colander is formed from satin-finish stainless steel. The material resists corrosion, does not stain and withstands repeated contact with water and food acids. The satin surface scatters light, hiding minor scratches and fingerprints that would show on a mirror finish.

The bowl measures 500 mm across the rim and 260 mm from base to rim. The 330 mm depth gives a large capacity for bulk draining without requiring a wider footprint on the worktop or in the sink. The diameter allows the colander to rest on most commercial sink rims or to span the width of a standard gastronorm container for direct transfer.

Cleaning follows from the construction: the smooth stainless steel surface is wiped or scrubbed, rinsed and left to dry. The satin finish does not require polishing, and the bowl's open shape allows water to run off without pooling.
