As water flows through, the calcium and magnesium bind to the resin, releasing sodium into the water. Over time, the resin loses its sodium charge and must be regenerated. Salt tablets dissolve in the brine tank to create a concentrated salt solution that flushes the resin, recharging it with sodium and flushing the hardness minerals away. Slow-dissolving tablets maintain a steady brine concentration, ensuring consistent regeneration without clogging the system or leaving undissolved residue.

To use, open the brine tank of the water softener and pour the entire contents of the 25 kg bag into the tank. The tablets will settle and begin to dissolve as the softener cycles through its regeneration programme. No stirring or breaking is needed; the tablets dissolve gradually, providing a controlled release of sodium for the next regeneration. The softener's control valve automatically draws the brine when the resin needs recharging, so the operator only needs to keep the tank topped up with tablets.

The tablets are compacted under high pressure to form dense, uniform discs that resist crumbling and dusting during transport and storage.
