A pilot thermocouple converts heat from a gas flame into a small electrical current that holds the gas valve open. When the flame fails, the current stops and the valve shuts automatically, cutting the gas supply to prevent leaks. This safety device is built into gas fryers, grills, ovens, bratt pans, fry tops and ranges where a standing pilot light must stay alight while the appliance is in use.
The probe threads into the pilot assembly and extends into the flame zone. Its tip senses the heat and generates a voltage that travels along the 85 cm lead to the gas valve solenoid. No external power is needed; the thermocouple is self-powered by the flame it monitors. Once installed, the operator lights the pilot, holds the ignition button for a few seconds to heat the probe, then releases the button and checks that the flame stays on. If the flame goes out, the thermocouple cools, the current drops and the valve closes within seconds.
Construction is a single stainless-steel probe with a threaded M9x1 fitting and an 850 mm lead terminated in a standard spade connector. The length allows the probe to reach the pilot burner from the gas valve location on large appliances such as double fryers, solid-top ranges and convection ovens.
This LF pilot thermocouple fits over 400 models of professional gas catering equipment from AMBACH, ANGELO PO, BARON, CAPIC, CB, FAGOR, GICO, GIORIK, LAINOX, LOTUS, MARENO, MBM, MODULAR, OLIS, SILKO, TECNOINOX and ZANUSSI, including boiling pans, bratt pans, fry tops, pasta cookers, rotisseries, grills and solid-top ranges.
Cleaning is limited to brushing off any carbon deposits from the probe tip with a soft wire brush; the lead and connector should be kept dry and free of grease to ensure a good electrical contact.
