A pilot thermocouple converts the heat of a standing gas flame into a small electric current that holds the safety valve open. When the flame goes out, the current stops and the valve closes automatically, cutting off the gas supply. This continuous signal is the only thing that keeps the appliance alight, so the thermocouple must sit exactly in the pilot flame and conduct the heat to its junction.

The operator fits the threaded end into the pilot assembly, tightens it to the specified M8x1 thread, and positions the 150 cm probe so its tip lies in the centre of the pilot flame. Once the gas is turned on, the pilot is lit manually; the thermocouple then generates the holding current within a few seconds and the main burners can be ignited. If the flame is disturbed or blown out, the valve closes and the gas flow stops until the pilot is re-lit.

The probe is a single continuous length of mineral-insulated cable with a stainless-steel outer sheath. The M8x1 threaded fitting at one end screws directly into the pilot assembly of the gas appliance, while the opposite end remains free to sense the flame.

The M8x1 thread matches the pilot ports on the listed models, ensuring a gas-tight seal without additional fittings. The 150 cm length allows the probe to reach from the pilot assembly to the flame position in deep or wide appliances such as boiling pans, under-counter ovens and large hobs.

Cleaning is limited to wiping the sheath with a dry cloth to remove dust; no solvents or water should contact the junction or the cable. The threaded end should be checked periodically for corrosion and tightened if necessary to maintain the seal.
