A pilot-flame thermocouple generates a small electrical current when heated by the standing pilot light of a gas appliance. This current holds the gas valve open; if the flame goes out, the current stops and the valve closes automatically, preventing unburned gas from escaping. The method relies on the Seebeck effect: two dissimilar metals joined at the tip produce voltage proportional to the temperature difference between the hot junction and the cold ends. No external power is needed, making the device fail-safe in the event of a power cut.
To install the LF thermocouple, the operator threads the M8x1 fitting into the gas valve body until it seats firmly. The 60 cm probe is then routed so its tip sits directly in the pilot flame. Once the pilot is lit, the thermocouple warms and the safety circuit is completed. During operation the appliance monitors the voltage; if it drops below the threshold, the gas supply is cut off within seconds.
The probe is a single continuous length of stainless-steel-sheathed thermocouple wire, 600 mm long with an M8x1 metric thread at the connection end. The sheath protects the internal conductors from corrosion and mechanical damage, ensuring consistent signal over time.
The M8x1 thread matches the standard pilot-safety valve ports found on the listed gas appliances. The 60 cm length allows the probe to reach from the valve, typically mounted at the rear or side of the appliance, to the pilot burner located at the front or beneath the main burner assembly.
Cleaning is limited to wiping the sheath with a dry cloth to remove dust or grease; solvents or abrasives can damage the sheath and must be avoided. Periodic inspection of the thread and the tip for corrosion or deformation ensures the connection remains gas-tight and the sensing tip stays correctly positioned in the flame.
This LF thermocouple is a direct replacement for the pilot sensor on ANGELO PO bain-maries, boiling pans, fry-tops, grills, hot plates, kitchens, pasta cookers, pot stoves and solid-top ranges; BRASILIA coffee machines; FAGOR bain-maries, boiling pans, bratt pans, fry-tops, fryers, grills, kitchens, lava-rock grills, ovens under cooktops, pot stoves and solid-top ranges; GICO gas kitchens; KÜPPERSBUSCH bain-maries, bratt pans and fryers; MKN broilers, electric grills and lava-rock grills; and WHIRLPOOL gas kitchens.
