A solenoid valve controls the flow of water or steam in a coffee machine by opening or closing an electrical circuit. When the machine signals a demand—such as brewing or steaming—the coil inside the valve energises, creating a magnetic field that lifts a plunger. This plunger moves away from the valve seat, allowing liquid or vapour to pass through the hose. When the signal stops, the coil de-energises, the magnetic field collapses, and a spring returns the plunger to its closed position, stopping the flow instantly. The method ensures precise, repeatable dosing without manual intervention.
To install the valve, the operator first isolates the machine from the power and water supply. The existing hose is disconnected from the old valve and the electrical connector is unplugged. The new valve is positioned in the same orientation, the hose is reattached and secured, and the electrical lead is reconnected to the 24 VAC 50 Hz supply. Once the machine is powered back on, the valve responds automatically to the control signals sent during the brewing or steaming cycle.
The valve is constructed as a two-way, normally closed unit with a hose connection. The body is built to withstand the pressure and temperature of espresso machine circuits, and the coil is rated for continuous duty at 24 VAC 50 Hz. The 24 VAC supply matches the low-voltage control circuits used in professional coffee equipment, reducing electrical risk while maintaining fast response times.
Cleaning is limited to external wiping with a damp cloth; the valve itself is a sealed unit and should never be disassembled. Any internal fault requires replacement rather than repair.
