A shower screen distributes water evenly across the coffee puck inside the portafilter, ensuring the grounds are saturated at the same rate. In an espresso machine, hot pressurised water is forced through a group head, where the shower screen breaks the flow into multiple small streams. This prevents channeling—where water finds the path of least resistance and leaves some grounds untouched—so the extraction is uniform and the flavour consistent from shot to shot.
To fit the shower screen, the operator first removes the existing screen by unscrewing the retaining screw or releasing the clip that holds it in place. The new screen is placed into the group head, aligned so the perforations face downward towards the coffee. The retaining mechanism is then secured, locking the screen in position. Once installed, the machine is ready to pull shots without further adjustment.
Constructed as a single pressed disc, the LF shower screen is designed to fit the standard 51.5 mm diameter group heads found on the listed commercial espresso machines. Its perforated surface is the only moving part in the water path, and its role is purely mechanical: to split the flow without altering pressure or temperature.
Cleaning follows from its construction. After each service, the screen should be removed and rinsed under running water to clear any coffee oils or fine grounds that have lodged in the perforations. A soft brush can dislodge stubborn residue without damaging the surface. Regular removal also allows the operator to inspect the group head gasket and the retaining mechanism for wear, ensuring the seal remains tight and the screen stays centred.
This shower screen is a direct replacement for the original part on ASTORIA CMA, BEZZERA, CARIMALI, CASADIO, CIMBALI, ELEKTRA, FAEMA, MCE, RENEKA, SAECO, SANREMO, VENEZIA, VENTI, VICTORIA ARDUINO and WEGA espresso machines, covering models from compact worktop units to high-volume barista stations. It is listed in the catalogue under espresso machine spares and accessories, grouped with group head components.
