A refrigerated buffet designed for school meal service keeps prepared dishes chilled while presenting them safely to children. The ROCAM KIDS 5 RV uses a fan to circulate cold air evenly across every shelf and well. This forced convection eliminates hot spots and ensures every portion stays within the safe temperature band set by the digital thermostat. The evaporator coil, cooled by a compressor running on R290 refrigerant, extracts heat from the air; an automatic defrost cycle then melts any ice that forms, draining it away without manual intervention. The result is consistent cooling without frost build-up, so the unit can run continuously during service.
To load the buffet, staff place up to five GN 1/1 gastronorm pans into the 26 cm deep stainless steel well. The rounded edges and drain cock simplify cleaning and prevent spills. Once the pans are in place, the operator sets the desired temperature between +2 °C and +10 °C on the digital control panel. The fan-assisted refrigeration system maintains that setting throughout the meal period, allowing children to serve themselves without risk of temperature abuse. After service, the well is emptied, wiped down and left ready for the next day.
The buffet's frame is built from stainless steel for hygiene and durability, while the exterior panelling can be specified in laminated wood, stainless steel or powder-coated steel. Sixteen standard wood finishes are available, from white sand to anthracite, so the unit can match the school's existing colour scheme. Height-adjustable feet with a skirting board allow the buffet to sit level on uneven floors and prevent debris from collecting underneath.
Controls consist of a digital thermostat that sets and displays the well temperature. The power draw of 0.389 kW reflects the compressor and fan load; additional LED lighting, if fitted, will increase this figure. A 230 V single-phase supply is required, matching the standard socket found in commercial kitchens and school dining halls.
The external dimensions of 1821 mm wide, 747 mm deep and 750 mm high give the buffet a compact footprint that fits through standard doorways and leaves room for circulation in busy dining areas. The 108 kg weight means the unit must be moved on its four 125 mm diameter castors—two of which lock to prevent rolling during service. The well itself measures 1667 mm long, 593 mm wide and 260 mm deep, accommodating the five GN 1/1 pans side by side.
Cleaning is straightforward: the stainless steel well lifts out or can be wiped in place, and the drain cock allows water to be flushed through. The laminated wood or stainless steel panelling can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild detergent, while the castors and feet are designed to be wiped down without disassembly. The automatic defrost system removes the need for manual defrosting, reducing daily maintenance.
Optional accessories allow the buffet to be configured for different layouts. Foldable dish holders in laminated wood or stainless steel can be fitted to the front, back or short sides, creating self-service stations or wall-mounted displays. Removable tray slides and display grids adapt the unit for island or linear arrangements, while a lower compartment with doors provides additional storage. Custom adhesive stickers can be applied for branding or wayfinding, and the plug can be specified for UK or Schuko sockets.
The KIDS 5 RV is categorised as a refrigerated buffet for primary schools, combining ventilated cooling with a robust, customisable design tailored to meal service in educational settings.
