A stainless steel upstand creates a raised barrier along the rear edge of a worktop, hob or counter. It stops liquids, food debris and cleaning water from running off the surface and reaching the wall behind. The height of the upstand determines how much spill it can contain before overflow; this model stands 50 mm above the worktop, giving a practical margin for everyday kitchen tasks.

The upstand is fixed to the worktop with a continuous weld or a sealed joint, so there are no gaps where dirt can collect. Once in place, it forms a smooth, sloping face that directs spills back onto the work surface, where they can be wiped or scraped away. The barrier also protects the wall from steam, grease and impact, reducing the need for frequent repainting or tiling repairs.

Installation is straightforward: the upstand is cut to the length of the worktop, positioned along the rear edge, and welded or sealed in place. The 50 mm height suits most standard worktops without interfering with shelving or overhead cupboards. The material is food-safe stainless steel, chosen for its resistance to corrosion, heat and cleaning chemicals.

Cleaning is simple: wipe the upstand with a damp cloth and a mild detergent after each service. The smooth surface and sloped profile prevent food particles from sticking, so no scrubbing or special tools are needed. Regular cleaning keeps the upstand hygienic and maintains its appearance.
