Ring thickness 1.78 mm - internal ø 6.07 mm
An O-ring creates a pressure-tight seal between two surfaces in espresso machines. It sits in a groove, compressed when the parts are assembled, blocking steam, water and coffee oils from leaking. Viton resists heat and chemical attack better than rubber, so the seal stays flexible and does not harden or crack over repeated heating and cooling cycles.
The operator fits the ring into the groove on the portafilter, group head or boiler connection. Once the mating part is tightened, the ring is squeezed to its working thickness of 1.78 mm, filling any microscopic gaps. No adjustment is needed; the seal is either present and intact or it is not.
This O-ring is made from Viton, a fluoropolymer elastomer. The material is chosen for its stability at high temperatures and its resistance to oils, acids and cleaning chemicals used in commercial coffee service.
The internal diameter of 6.07 mm determines the size of the pipe or fitting it seals. The 1.78 mm thickness sets how much the ring must be compressed to form a reliable seal without over-stressing the material.
Cleaning follows from the materials: wipe the ring with a damp cloth to remove coffee residue, but do not use solvents that could degrade Viton. Inspect the ring regularly for cracks or permanent deformation; replace it when the surface is no longer smooth or the ring no longer springs back after compression.
