A vegetable peeler's output depends on the blade that meets the produce. These additional knives are shaped for cucumbers, converting the peeler from a general tool into one specialised for long, firm vegetables. The blades slice the skin in a single pass, leaving the flesh intact and reducing manual trimming afterwards.
The peeler itself remains unchanged: a motor turns a drum against which the vegetables are pressed. The drum holds the interchangeable knives, so swapping the set reconfigures the machine for a different crop. Cucumber knives have a finer edge and a shallower angle than standard blades, so they remove only the outer layer without gouging the soft interior.
To use, the operator removes the existing drum, slides the cucumber knives into the slots, and locks them in place. Vegetables are fed through the hopper; the drum rotates and the blades peel as they pass. The process is continuous, with no need to pause between items. Once the batch is complete, the drum is lifted out and the knives are cleaned or swapped for another set.
Each knife is a single piece of hardened steel, ground to the profile specified for cucumbers. The set weighs 0.65 kg, light enough to handle without tools yet heavy enough to stay seated in the drum during operation.
These knives fit Neumarker vegetable peelers designed to accept interchangeable blades. They are supplied without a stand, so they are stored in the original drum or in a designated drawer until the next use.
In the catalogue, the article appears under ‘Vegetable Preparation – Peeler Accessories' alongside other crop-specific blades.
