A drive gear transfers rotary motion between the motor and the brew group in automatic coffee and vending machines. The gear's teeth mesh with a matching pinion or worm, converting the motor's high-speed rotation into the slower, higher-torque movement that opens the brew chamber, advances the grinder, and meters water. The number of teeth and their spacing determine the exact ratio of motor revolutions to brew-group movement, ensuring the sequence of grinding, tamping, extraction and ejection stays synchronised. Any slippage or misalignment would cause the machine to jam or dispense incorrectly, so the gear must be cut to precise dimensions and mounted securely on its shaft.
To replace the gear, the operator first unplugs the machine and removes the side or rear panel. The old gear is located on the motor output shaft or on the brew-group drive spindle, depending on the model. It is held in place by a retaining clip or a set screw. After removing the clip or loosening the screw, the gear slides off the shaft. The new gear is aligned with the shaft's flat or keyway, slid into position, and secured with the clip or screw. The panel is refitted, the machine is powered on, and a test cycle confirms the brew group moves smoothly through its full range.
The gear is machined from a single piece of hardened steel. The 108 teeth are cut to a height of 5 mm, giving a strong contact surface without excessive bulk. Overall height is 67 mm, allowing it to fit within the compact drive housings of table-top and built-in units. The bore is sized to match the standard motor or brew-group shafts used across the listed models, so no additional adapters are required.
The 82 mm diameter and 108-tooth count match the original parts in the specified Saeco and Gaggia machines, ensuring the correct gear ratio and timing. This compatibility covers domestic super-automatics, office units and commercial vending machines, including the Incanto, Royal, Magic, Stratos and VEspresso ranges.
Cleaning is limited to removing any coffee grounds or dust from the teeth with a dry brush before installation. Once fitted, the gear requires no further maintenance beyond the routine descaling and lubrication of the brew group recommended for the host machine.
