A flat gasket creates the seal between the portafilter and the group head of an espresso machine. Without it, water and steam would escape instead of being forced through the coffee puck at the correct pressure. The gasket is compressed each time the portafilter is locked in, forming a tight barrier that keeps the brewing process consistent and leak-free.
The operator fits the gasket into the groove of the group head, ensuring it lies flat and even. Once seated, the portafilter is inserted and twisted into place, compressing the gasket to complete the seal. Over time, the material hardens and loses its elasticity, so the gasket must be replaced to maintain the correct pressure and prevent leaks during extraction.
This gasket is made from EPDM, a synthetic rubber chosen for its resistance to heat, water and steam. The material remains flexible across the temperature range of a working espresso machine, resisting cracking and deformation that would break the seal. The dimensions—15.5 mm outer diameter, 7.5 mm inner diameter and 4 mm thickness—match the groove of the group head, ensuring a precise fit without gaps or overhang.
The gasket fits a wide range of commercial espresso machines from BEZZERA, BFC, BRASILIA, CIME, CREM, ECM, FAEMA, Fiorenzato C.S., Futurmat-Ariete, GMBH, Grimac, Isomac, Orchestrale, Pavoni, Profitec, Reneka, Rocket, Royal, Scala, Synchro and Wega. Each of these brands uses a similar group-head design, so the gasket serves as a direct replacement for the original part.
Cleaning is limited to wiping the gasket with a damp cloth to remove coffee oils and residue. No solvents or abrasives should be used, as they can degrade the EPDM and shorten its lifespan. Regular inspection for hardening or cracking will indicate when replacement is needed.
The product is listed in the spare-parts section of the catering-equipment catalogue, under gaskets and seals for espresso machines.
