FILTER HOLDER GASKET ø 71x56x8.2 mm
A filter holder gasket creates the pressure-tight seal between the portafilter and the group head of an espresso machine. Without it, hot water would bypass the coffee puck, leading to weak, uneven extraction and wasted grounds. The gasket sits in a groove inside the portafilter, compressing against the group head when the lever is locked. Its resilience ensures consistent pressure across every shot, even after hundreds of cycles of heat and mechanical stress.
To replace the gasket, the operator first removes the portafilter from the machine and allows it to cool. The old gasket is pried out of its groove with a small tool, taking care not to scratch the metal. The new gasket is pressed into place, ensuring it lies flat and evenly around the entire circumference. Once seated, the portafilter is reattached to the group head and tested with a blank shot to confirm the seal holds pressure.
This gasket is moulded to the exact dimensions of the portafilter basket: 71 mm outer diameter, 56 mm inner diameter and 8.2 mm thickness. The material is chosen for its resistance to heat, oils and cleaning chemicals, maintaining flexibility over repeated use. It fits Nuova Simonelli Appia and Appia II espresso machines, including the Appia Life, Appia Compact and all group configurations listed in the compatibility table.
Regular replacement of the gasket is part of routine maintenance on any espresso machine. A worn gasket loses its shape, allowing water to channel around the coffee rather than through it. Signs of wear include uneven extraction, hissing during brewing or visible gaps when the portafilter is locked in place. Keeping a spare gasket on hand ensures minimal downtime during service.
The gasket is categorised under spare parts for espresso equipment, specifically for filter holders and portafilters.
