A filter holder gasket creates a tight seal between the filter basket and the portafilter body in a commercial espresso machine. Without this seal, pressurised water escapes around the edges of the coffee puck instead of being forced through it, leading to weak, uneven extraction and messy drips beneath the group head. The gasket is made of food-safe elastomer that compresses slightly when the portafilter is locked in place, filling any microscopic gaps and ensuring the full brewing pressure is applied to the coffee.
To replace the gasket, the operator first removes the old one with a flat tool, taking care not to scratch the metal surface of the filter holder. The new gasket is pressed into the circular groove until it sits evenly all the way round. Once fitted, the portafilter is reattached to the machine and a short test shot is pulled to confirm the seal holds under pressure.
This gasket measures 70 mm in outer diameter, 57 mm in inner diameter and is 8 mm thick, matching the dimensions of the filter holder in Brasilia espresso machines. The size ensures it fits snugly without stretching or bunching, which would prevent the portafilter from locking correctly.
The gasket is compatible with Brasilia models 105, Belle-Epoque, Cappuccino, Century, Century America, Firenze, Portofino, Portofino-America and Roma. It is a direct replacement part and requires no additional adapters or modifications.
In daily use, the gasket should be inspected for cracks or hardening and replaced as soon as it no longer provides a secure seal. Regular replacement maintains consistent extraction and prevents water leaks that can damage the machine or create slip hazards on the worktop.
