A drier removes moisture from the refrigerant circuit in commercial icemakers, stopping ice crystals from forming and blocking the system. The unit contains a desiccant that absorbs water vapour as the refrigerant passes through, keeping the circuit dry and preventing corrosion or freezing that would reduce cooling performance. Without this step, moisture in the refrigerant would turn to ice inside the evaporator, slowing ice production and eventually stopping the machine entirely.
The drier installs directly into the refrigerant line, usually between the condenser and the expansion valve. Once fitted, it works continuously as the icemaker cycles, filtering moisture from the refrigerant without requiring adjustment or maintenance during normal operation. The desiccant inside has a finite capacity, so the drier is replaced as part of routine servicing rather than being regenerated or cleaned.
This LF drier fits a wide range of ICE TECH and ITV icemakers, including models in the GR, PS, SK, SS, ALFA-NG, DELTA-NG, GALA, IceQueen, NG, PULSAR, Q, SPIKA and SuperStar series. Installation requires cutting into the refrigerant line, so it is carried out by a refrigeration engineer who will also evacuate and recharge the system afterwards.
The unit is a sealed cartridge, meaning the desiccant is enclosed and cannot be accessed or replenished. When the desiccant is saturated, the entire drier is replaced to restore full moisture-removal capacity. This design ensures consistent performance and eliminates the risk of desiccant particles entering the refrigerant circuit.
In a working kitchen, the drier's role is invisible but critical: it keeps the icemaker producing clear, hard ice at the expected rate, without the slowdown or shutdown that moisture in the system would cause. Replacing it at the recommended intervals maintains the icemaker's efficiency and extends the life of the refrigeration components.
