A coffee tamper compresses ground coffee into the portafilter basket, creating an even, dense puck that water passes through at the right rate. Without this pressure, water channels through loose grounds, extracting unevenly and producing weak or bitter espresso. The tamper's flat base distributes force evenly across the coffee bed, while its handle gives the barista control over the downward push.

To use, the operator fills the portafilter basket with freshly ground coffee, levels the surface with a gentle shake, then places the tamper on top. Steady downward pressure is applied until the puck feels firm and the tamper sits flush with the basket rim. The portafilter is then locked into the espresso machine for extraction.

The LF 57 mm tamper combines a metal base for durability and a wooden handle for a comfortable grip. The 57 mm diameter matches standard commercial espresso baskets, ensuring a snug fit that prevents grounds from escaping around the edges during tamping.

Cleaning is straightforward: wipe the metal base with a damp cloth after each use to remove coffee oils, and occasionally treat the wooden handle with food-safe oil to prevent drying or cracking.
