A water filter cartridge removes dissolved minerals, chlorine and microscopic particles from the water that brews coffee. Inside the sealed housing, activated carbon granules adsorb chlorine and organic compounds, while ion-exchange resin beads capture calcium and magnesium ions. This dual action prevents scale from forming on the heating element and internal pipes, keeping water flow steady and heating efficient. The result is consistent brewing temperature and flavour, without the metallic or bitter notes that untreated water can impart.

The cartridge installs in the water tank of compatible Saeco and Philips Aquaclean coffee machines. After the tank is filled with fresh water, the operator lifts the tank lid, aligns the cartridge with the inlet, and presses it down until it clicks into place. The machine then draws water through the filter on every brew cycle, automatically reducing the mineral load before heating. No additional settings or priming are required; the filter works passively as long as it remains seated.

The sealed plastic housing contains the carbon and resin media, with a mesh screen at each end to prevent granules escaping into the water stream. Once the cartridge is exhausted, it is removed by lifting the release tab and pulling it free, then discarded and replaced with a new one.

This filter is a direct replacement for article 421945054371 and fits Saeco and Philips coffee machines equipped with the Aquaclean water-filtration system.
