A hinge on an upright freezer carries the door's weight and sets its swing. On a right-hand hinge, the pivot sits on the right side when the door opens towards you, so the door swings clear of the cabinet without fouling the frame or the worktop beside it. The hinge also holds the door's seal against the cabinet, keeping the cold air inside and the warm air out. If the hinge wears or breaks, the door no longer closes squarely, the seal leaks, and the compressor runs longer to maintain temperature.
To replace the hinge, the operator unplugs the freezer, removes the top panel or grille that covers the hinge, unscrews the old hinge, lifts the door off its lower pivot, and sets the new hinge in place. The door is then lowered back onto the lower pivot, the screws are tightened, and the panel or grille is refitted. Once the freezer is plugged back in, the door should swing freely and seal tightly without sagging or rubbing.
This hinge is a direct replacement for the right-hand up hinge on the Tefcold GUF140-P Upright Freezer GN2/1. It is manufactured by Tefcold SpareParts as article 13003 and fits no other model.
