A solenoid valve controls the flow of refrigerant in a refrigeration circuit by opening or closing an internal orifice with an electromagnetic coil. When power is applied, the coil pulls a plunger against a spring, lifting the valve seat and allowing refrigerant to pass. When power is removed, the spring returns the plunger, sealing the orifice and stopping flow. This on-off action is used to start, stop or divert refrigerant between sections of a refrigeration system, maintaining the set temperature range without manual intervention.
The BHS-K-EVV1 is installed by soldering its brass body directly into the copper refrigerant line. Once in place, the operator connects the coil to the control circuit. When the thermostat or controller calls for cooling, the coil is energised, opening the valve and allowing refrigerant to flow into the evaporator section. When the target temperature is reached, the controller cuts power, the spring closes the valve, and refrigerant flow stops. The sequence repeats automatically, keeping the refrigerated space within the specified temperature band.
The valve body is made of brass, chosen for its thermal conductivity and resistance to corrosion in refrigerant environments. The coil is encapsulated in a plastic housing that protects the windings from moisture and mechanical damage. The valve is designed for horizontal installation in the liquid line, with an arrow on the body showing the direction of refrigerant flow.
The stated temperature range of -20 °C to +18 °C means the valve can be used in both chilled and frozen applications, from walk-in freezers to display cabinets. The section sizing of ½ to 4½ sections indicates the valve is suitable for small to medium refrigeration circuits, matching the capacity of the compressor and evaporator it serves.
Cleaning is limited to the external coil and housing; the internal valve mechanism is sealed and not accessible. The coil should be kept dry and free from dust to prevent electrical faults. The soldered joint should be inspected periodically for leaks, as any refrigerant loss will reduce system efficiency.
The BHS-K-EVV1 is listed in the BHS catalogue under refrigeration controls and spare parts for commercial refrigeration systems.
