A schreder's service valve allows a refrigeration technician to isolate a section of the refrigerant circuit without discharging the entire system. The valve sits between the compressor and the evaporator or condenser, creating a temporary shut-off point. When the valve is closed, refrigerant flow stops in that branch, letting the technician open the circuit for repairs, filter changes or component replacement while the rest of the system stays pressurised and operational. Once the work is complete, the valve reopens, restoring flow and equalising pressure without introducing air or moisture into the circuit.
To use the valve, the technician first identifies the correct branch on the refrigeration unit. The valve handle is turned clockwise to close the port, stopping refrigerant movement. After the repair or replacement, the handle is turned anticlockwise to reopen the valve, allowing refrigerant to circulate again. The valve's position is checked for leaks with a detector or soapy water before the system is returned to service.
The valve body is constructed from brass, chosen for its resistance to corrosion and compatibility with common refrigerants. The handle is metal, providing a secure grip and clear visual indication of the valve's open or closed position. A Schrader core inside the valve allows for pressure testing and refrigerant charging without removing the valve from the circuit.
This schreder's service valve fits BHS refrigeration models designed for temperature ranges of -5 to +8 °C and -20 to +18 °C, covering sections from 1/2 to 4 1/2 sections in size. It is listed in the refrigeration maintenance and spares section of the catalogue.
