Double walled percolator
A percolator brews coffee by cycling hot water through coffee grounds repeatedly, extracting flavour and aroma without boiling the grounds directly. The water heats in the lower chamber, rises through a central tube, and showers over the grounds held in a perforated basket. Gravity returns the infused liquid to the base, where it heats again and repeats the cycle until the desired strength is reached. This method produces a full-bodied, consistent brew favoured in large-volume catering where speed and uniformity matter.
To operate, fill the tank with cold water up to the marked level, place ground coffee in the basket, and secure the lid. Plug the unit into a 230 V single-phase circuit, which is standard for most commercial kitchens. The insulated double wall keeps the exterior cool to touch, reducing accidental burns and heat loss into the workspace. Once switched on, the water heats and begins circulating automatically; no further intervention is needed until the brew completes. A clear glass knob on the lid lets the operator monitor progress without opening the unit. When finished, the coffee stays warm in the insulated tank, ready for serving from the tap.
The body and tank are made of polished stainless steel, chosen for durability, corrosion resistance, and ease of cleaning. Stainless steel handles with silicone grips remain cool and provide a secure hold when moving the unit. An anti-fouling coating inside the tank reduces mineral build-up, extending intervals between descaling. A removable drip tray with a stainless steel grid catches spills and simplifies emptying.
A 1.5 kW heating element draws a moderate load, suitable for a dedicated circuit in a busy kitchen without overloading the supply. The 16 litre volume allows continuous service for medium to large events, producing enough coffee to fill standard catering urns or carafes without frequent refills. At 6.76 kg, the percolator is light enough for one person to carry between stations, yet stable on a worktop or counter. The footprint of 360 by 401 mm fits standard catering work surfaces, leaving room for cups and condiments alongside.
Cleaning involves rinsing the basket and drip tray after each use, wiping the exterior with a damp cloth, and periodically descaling the tank to remove limescale. The anti-fouling coating reduces the frequency of deep cleaning, and the stainless steel construction resists staining and odour retention. The glass knob and silicone grips can be cleaned with mild detergent, avoiding abrasives that might scratch polished surfaces.
The percolator is listed in the HENDI catalogue under hot beverage equipment, alongside urns and espresso machines, for professional catering and hospitality use.
