An NTC probe measures temperature by changing its electrical resistance as the surrounding air or liquid warms or cools. The term NTC stands for Negative Temperature Coefficient: the warmer the probe becomes, the lower its resistance falls. This resistance is read by the refrigeration unit's control board, which adjusts the compressor and fans to hold the set temperature inside the cabinet. Without a working probe, the unit cannot sense how cold the evaporator or return air is, so it either over-chills, wasting energy, or under-chills, risking food safety.
The probe is fitted into a designated port on the evaporator or inside the refrigerated space. A cable connects it to the control board, where the resistance reading is converted into a temperature value. Once installed, the probe requires no further intervention; it continuously monitors the temperature and feeds data to the control system, which cycles the refrigeration components on and off as needed.
This NTC probe is a direct replacement part designed to fit specific Tefcold refrigeration models. It is constructed with a sealed sensing element to protect against moisture and corrosion, ensuring stable readings over time. The cable is insulated to withstand the low temperatures and humidity typical of commercial refrigeration environments.
Cleaning and upkeep are limited to occasional inspection of the cable and connector for signs of wear or damage. If the probe is removed for any reason, it should be refitted in the same location to maintain accurate temperature control.
