A contactless handwash station removes the need to touch taps or soap dispensers, cutting the risk of cross-contamination in busy kitchens, food production areas and public washrooms. The unit detects motion and releases a measured flow of water and soap without physical contact, so each user starts with clean hands and leaves no residue on shared surfaces.
Water and soap are stored in separate reservoirs inside the unit. An infrared sensor above the basin triggers a solenoid valve when hands are placed beneath it, releasing water at a controlled pressure. A second sensor activates the soap pump, delivering a fixed dose of liquid soap into the user's palms. The system runs on mains water supply and requires no manual adjustment, so the sequence is consistent for every user.
To use the station, the operator places hands under the spout; the sensor detects movement and water flows for a set interval. Hands are then moved beneath the soap dispenser, where the second sensor releases soap. The user lathers and rinses, and the cycle ends automatically. No taps are turned, no levers are pulled, and no surfaces are touched after the hands are clean.
The station is constructed from stainless steel, chosen for its resistance to corrosion, ease of cleaning and durability in high-traffic environments. The material does not harbour bacteria and withstands frequent exposure to water, soap and sanitisers without staining or degrading.
The controls consist of an infrared sensor for water and a second sensor for soap. Each sensor is calibrated to respond only to deliberate hand movements, preventing accidental activation. The unit operates on a standard mains water connection and does not require a separate power supply for the sensors, which are battery-powered for flexibility in installation.
Stainless steel construction means the station can be wiped down with standard kitchen sanitisers and cloths. The smooth surfaces allow quick removal of soap scum and water marks, and the absence of crevices prevents dirt from accumulating. Regular cleaning maintains the unit's hygiene and appearance, with no need for specialised tools or chemicals.
The Contactless Handwash Station 2011 is available in custom sizes to fit specific installation spaces, while retaining the same touchless operation and stainless steel build. It is categorised under hygiene equipment in the Novameta professional catering range.
