Colored LED lighting
A buffet shelf that illuminates food and tableware from within, drawing attention while keeping the display hygienic and accessible. LED strips mounted beneath the shelf cast an even glow across the surface, making colours and textures stand out without adding heat. The light is controlled by a simple switch, allowing staff to adjust brightness or turn it off during cleaning or non-service periods. Because the LEDs draw minimal power, the unit can run continuously without raising energy costs or overheating the display area.
The shelf is designed for open access from both sides, so customers can serve themselves without reaching over barriers. A 6 mm tempered glass sneeze guard arches above the shelf, shielding food from airborne particles while remaining transparent and unobtrusive. The guard is fixed at a height that balances protection with ease of reach, and its smooth edges make it safe to clean and handle.
Operators load the shelf by placing trays, plates or bowls directly onto the stainless steel surface. The shelf accepts four GN 1/1 gastronorm containers, which standardise the layout and prevent spills. Adjustable legs allow the unit to sit level on uneven floors or to match the height of adjacent counters. Once positioned, the shelf remains stable, with no wobble or drift during service.
Construction is fully stainless steel, chosen for its resistance to corrosion, staining and impact. The material does not absorb odours or harbour bacteria, so it meets hygiene standards in self-service zones. The open design means there are no hidden corners or crevices; every surface is exposed and easy to wipe down. The LED strips are sealed behind a clear cover, protecting them from moisture and cleaning sprays.
A single control switch on the front edge turns the lighting on or off. No dimming or colour adjustment is provided, keeping the operation straightforward and reliable. The switch is positioned where staff can reach it without bending or stretching, even when the shelf is fully loaded.
The 1393 mm width allows the shelf to span a standard buffet counter, while the 400 mm depth keeps it compact enough to fit between walls or other equipment. The 400 mm height, measured from the floor to the top of the sneeze guard, ensures the display is at a comfortable serving level for most adults. The weight of the unit, though not specified, is sufficient to prevent tipping but light enough for two people to move without machinery.
Cleaning involves wiping the stainless steel surfaces and glass with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The LED cover can be cleaned with a soft cloth to avoid scratching. No disassembly is required, and there are no filters or fans to maintain. The tempered glass is resistant to thermal shock, so it can be cleaned with hot water without risk of cracking.
The shelf is part of the Novameta buffet range and is compatible with drop-in counters and other modular units in the same series. It is supplied as a single unit with adjustable legs and a power cord for the LED lighting.
