A lightweight thermal box ideal for catering companies and servicing various off-site events.
An insulated transport box keeps food at serving temperature while it moves from kitchen to service point. The box does not heat or chill; it slows the transfer of heat through its walls. A thick layer of insulating foam traps air, which is a poor conductor. When the box is closed, the trapped air forms a barrier that delays the rise or fall of the internal temperature. This allows hot dishes to stay hot and chilled items to stay cold without active power, making the box suitable for off-site events, deliveries and temporary service stations where mains power is not available.
The operator loads standard gastronorm containers into the box, closes the lid and secures the latch. The box is then carried by its ergonomic side handles or placed on a trolley. During transport, the internal temperature changes slowly, extending the safe holding time for both hot and cold foods. When the destination is reached, the lid is opened and the containers are removed for plating or display.
The box is constructed from injection-moulded plastic with a closed-cell insulating foam core. The plastic shell resists impact and moisture, while the foam maintains the thermal barrier. Ergonomic handles are moulded into the sides for safe, comfortable carrying. The lid seals tightly to minimise heat exchange.
The box accepts standard gastronorm containers; an optional extension frame raises the capacity for a full-size GN 1/1 thermocontainer. A separate cooling element container is available for extended chilled transport.
The 80 litre volume provides space for multiple gastronorm containers, while the external dimensions of 685 × 485 × 360 mm fit on standard worktops, trolleys and delivery vehicle shelves. The temperature resistance from –20 °C to +110 °C allows the box to transport frozen, chilled and hot foods without risk of deformation or quality loss.
Cleaning is straightforward: the smooth plastic surfaces wipe clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The insulating foam is sealed inside the walls and does not require maintenance. The box is stored with the lid open to allow any condensation to evaporate and to keep the seal dry.
The HENDI insulated box is placed in the catalogue under Transport & Storage Equipment, Insulated Containers.
