The SP series ice makers are made entirely of stainless steel. They are top-class units within the Kastel range, equipped with the latest technology to ensure maximum efficiency and long-lasting performance.
Cooling system - water or air
Full ice cube 36 gr (42×45 mm)
An ice maker that produces dense, slow-melting cubes continuously for bars, restaurants and events.
The KASTEL SP280 ice maker compresses refrigerant through a sealed circuit, drawing heat from water inside a freezing chamber. As the water cools below its freezing point, it crystallises around a grid of moulds, forming solid cubes that retain their shape and clarity. The refrigerant, R290, is chosen for its efficiency in transferring heat without harming the environment, ensuring consistent production even in warm kitchens.
To operate the machine, the user fills the internal reservoir with fresh water, then switches the mechanical control system to the on position. The compressor starts, circulating refrigerant and lowering the temperature inside the chamber. Once the cubes reach the set hardness, a harvest cycle begins: a brief warming phase loosens the cubes from the moulds, and they drop into the separate container below. The operator removes the container when full, transferring the cubes to storage or directly into drinks.
The SP280 is built with a stainless-steel exterior and internal components designed to resist corrosion from constant water exposure. The water-cooling system, available as an option, dissipates heat more effectively than air-cooling, allowing the machine to maintain output in high ambient temperatures or confined spaces. The 230 V, 50 Hz power requirement matches standard UK commercial circuits, drawing 2.7 W during operation.
A capacity of 280 kg per 24 hours means the machine can supply a busy bar or hotel breakfast service without interruption, producing 120 cubes per cycle. The 147 kg weight ensures stability on the floor, while the 1255 mm height fits beneath most worktops. The separate container allows staff to remove ice without stopping production, reducing downtime during peak service.
Cleaning involves emptying the water reservoir and wiping the interior surfaces with a mild sanitising solution to prevent scale build-up. The exterior is cleaned with a damp cloth, avoiding abrasive cleaners that could damage the stainless-steel finish. Regular maintenance includes checking the refrigerant level and inspecting the water inlet for blockages.
The SP280 is available with a water-cooling system as an optional upgrade. This variant is suited to environments where ambient temperatures or space constraints would otherwise reduce efficiency.
The machine is categorised under professional ice makers for continuous daily use in the KASTEL range.
