A mobile storage and transport unit designed to hold sixteen standard 325 mm by 530 mm gastronorm trays in a single vertical stack. The trolley keeps trays aligned, spaced and accessible without removing them from the frame, allowing kitchen staff to move entire batches of prepared food, ingredients or tableware between preparation, storage and service areas in one trip.
The operating principle is simple: each tray rests on a pair of horizontal rails that run the full width of the trolley. The rails are spaced at regular intervals to match the height of a GN1/1 tray, so that when a tray is slid into place it sits level and secure. Because the rails are fixed only at the sides, the centre of each tray remains open, allowing air to circulate freely around the contents. This arrangement prevents condensation and keeps food at a consistent temperature during transit. The vertical configuration also minimises the floor space required, making the trolley practical for tight kitchen layouts.
To use the trolley, the operator slides each tray into its designated slot from the front. Once all sixteen trays are loaded, the trolley is wheeled to its destination. The trays can be removed in any order, and the trolley can be left in place as a temporary storage rack until the contents are needed. When empty, the trolley folds flat or can be nested with others of the same model to save space in storage cupboards.
Construction is stainless steel throughout, chosen for durability and ease of cleaning in a professional kitchen environment. The frame is welded for rigidity, and the shelves are formed from solid bar rather than perforated sheet, giving a smooth surface that does not trap food debris. Four swivel castors allow the trolley to be moved in any direction, and the front pair can be locked to prevent rolling when the trolley is stationary.
The overall dimensions of 385 mm wide, 530 mm deep and 1707 mm high allow the trolley to pass through standard kitchen doorways and service lifts. The width matches the depth of a GN1/1 tray, so the trolley does not protrude beyond the tray edges when viewed from the front. The height is sufficient to hold sixteen trays with comfortable clearance above the top tray for lifting.
Cleaning is straightforward: the smooth stainless steel surfaces can be wiped down with a damp cloth and sanitiser after each use. The open construction means there are no hidden corners where dirt can accumulate, and the absence of moving parts reduces maintenance to occasional inspection of the castors and frame welds.
