Socket for flourescent tube canopy
- : Tefcold SpareParts
- Article number: 15471
A fluorescent tube socket provides the electrical connection that starts and sustains the light inside catering extraction canopies and ventilation hoods. The tube itself is a sealed glass envelope filled with mercury vapour. When the socket applies mains voltage across the tube's electrodes, electrons collide with the mercury atoms, producing ultraviolet light. A phosphor coating on the inside of the glass then converts that ultraviolet into visible white light, illuminating the work surface below the canopy without generating the heat of an incandescent bulb.
To replace a failed tube, the operator first isolates the canopy from the mains supply. The old tube is rotated a quarter turn and lifted out of the socket. The new tube is inserted into the socket's spring-loaded contacts, rotated until it locks, and the power is restored. The socket's design ensures the tube is held securely and aligned so the light is evenly distributed across the hob or worktop beneath.
This Tefcold spare socket is manufactured to match the original canopy fittings, maintaining the correct electrical contact and mechanical support for the tube. It is a direct replacement part for Tefcold extraction canopies and ventilation hoods used in professional kitchens.
The socket fits into the canopy's existing mounting points, requiring no additional tools beyond those used for routine tube replacement. Its construction allows for quick installation during scheduled maintenance, minimising downtime in a working kitchen.
