A drop-in cold basin keeps a single gastronorm GN1/1 pan chilled without taking up counter space. The unit sits flush within a worktop cut-out, leaving the surface clear for food preparation while the pan remains accessible. A refrigeration system circulates coolant through a concealed evaporator coil beneath the basin, pulling heat from the pan and releasing it at the rear or side via a remote condenser. This arrangement removes the heat source from the kitchen, reducing ambient temperature and noise at the workstation.
The operator lowers a GN1/1 pan into the basin, ensuring it rests on the integral supports. The temperature control is set between +2 °C and +8 °C, allowing safe storage of pre-prepared ingredients, dressings or cold buffet items. A drain tap with a G1/2 internal thread permits quick emptying of melted ice or spilled liquids without lifting the pan. Remote control capability lets the refrigeration cycle be managed from a separate condenser unit, freeing up under-counter space and simplifying maintenance access.
The basin is constructed with an efficient thermal-insulation layer that minimises energy use and prevents condensation on the outer surfaces. Stainless steel forms the basin interior and exterior, providing durability and corrosion resistance in a busy kitchen. The unit measures 395 mm front to back, 600 mm side to side and 670 mm deep, requiring a worktop cut-out of 380 mm by 580 mm. A power rating of 0.36 kW reflects the load on the electrical supply when the compressor cycles.
Cleaning involves wiping the stainless steel surfaces with a mild detergent solution, ensuring the drain tap is clear and the insulation remains dry. The remote condenser, if fitted, should be checked periodically for airflow obstruction and dust accumulation. The basin is designed for seamless integration into standardised catering counters and is compatible with Novameta remote condenser units.
