Steel pizza peel 120x250mm
A pizza peel transfers pizzas from the worktop into a hot oven and retrieves them without spilling toppings or risking burns. The broad, flat blade slides under the dough, lifting it clear of the bench; the long handle keeps the operator's hands well away from the oven opening and its radiant heat. Once the pizza is positioned over the stone or deck, a quick jerk forward and a pull back leaves the pizza in place and the peel free to move on to the next task.
The blade is shaped like a shovel with a tapered front edge. This edge slips easily under the pizza base, while the flat surface supports the weight of the dough and toppings. A slight upward tilt of the handle raises the front of the blade, allowing the pizza to slide off smoothly onto the oven floor. When retrieving, the same edge is used to hook the pizza and draw it back onto the blade.
To use the peel, the operator dusts the blade with flour or semolina to prevent sticking. The prepared pizza is assembled on the worktop, then slid onto the blade with a gentle push. The peel is lifted, carried to the oven, and the pizza is launched with a swift forward motion. After baking, the process is reversed: the peel is inserted under the pizza, lifted, and the pizza is slid back onto the worktop.
The peel is made of stainless steel, which resists corrosion, cleans easily, and does not react with acidic toppings. The handle is plastic, providing a cooler grip and reducing the overall weight of the tool. The dimensions of 120 mm by 250 mm give a blade large enough to support a standard pizza base while remaining narrow enough to manoeuvre in a busy kitchen.
Cleaning involves wiping the blade with a damp cloth after each use to remove flour and food debris. For deeper cleaning, the peel can be washed with warm soapy water and dried immediately to prevent water spots. The plastic handle should not be exposed to high heat or abrasive cleaners to avoid damage.
