Cartridge for one-hole mixer tap MONOLITH 00304000021

A ceramic cartridge controls the flow and temperature of water in a one-hole mixer tap by combining hot and cold supplies within a single valve body. Two ceramic discs, ground to a fine tolerance, slide against each other to open, close or blend the streams. This design eliminates washers that wear out and gives the operator smooth, precise adjustment with a single lever instead of separate taps for hot and cold.

To replace the cartridge, the operator isolates the water supply, removes the tap handle and retaining nut, lifts out the old cartridge and inserts the new one. The ceramic discs must align with the inlet ports; the manufacturer's mark on the cartridge shows the correct orientation. Once the retaining nut and handle are refitted, the tap is ready to use.

The cartridge is constructed from ceramic discs housed in a brass body. These materials resist corrosion and scaling, which are common in hard-water areas and busy kitchens.
