A drip grid in an espresso machine catches condensate that forms when steam from the wand cools against the cooler metal of the wand tip and the surrounding air. As the steam condenses, water droplets fall and collect on the grid instead of pooling on the drip tray or worktop. This keeps the station dry and reduces the frequency of emptying the main drip tray.

The operator positions the grid beneath the steam wand before starting the milk-steaming programme. Once the wand is lowered, any condensate drips onto the grid and drains through its perforations into the drip tray below. After steaming, the wand is raised and the grid can be lifted out for cleaning.

The grid is constructed from stainless steel, shaped to fit the designated Steam IT models. It rests on the drip tray without additional fasteners, allowing quick removal and replacement.
